The boot camp includes a weekly enews, resiliency-focused conversations on our In Her Boots podcast, and two webinars to dig deeper into topics. On July 28, our webinar features Charlotte Smith of 3 Cow Marketing on "How to Set Priorities & Manage Time." Special Offer for Farmers

MOSES events and our podcasts are sponsored by Gempler’s, your online outdoor general store for commercial-grade tools, clothing, and supplies plus other outdoor gear. Since 1939, folks who work outdoors have been gearing up with Gempler’s. Family-owned. Fiercely independent.

Help Gempler’s give back with "Locally Grown" T-shirts. Gempler’s donates a portion of shirt sales to MOSES and Farmer Veteran Coalition. And to celebrate the people who serve this country, they’ll double the giving through July.

July Customer Appreciation Special Offer: Use promo code MOSES20 to save 20% on your next order through July 31, 2020. Some exclusions apply.

Award Nominations

Shine the spotlight on an outstanding organic farmer by nominating someone you admire for the MOSES Organic Farmer of the Year award. This prestigious award recognizes organic farmers for outstanding land stewardship, innovation, and outreach.

You can also recommend an emerging leader or organic farming advocate to receive the new Changemaker award. This award honors those who are finding creative ways to build a more just, organic, sustainable, and diverse agriculture/food system for all.

The 2021 award winners will be selected from nominations by the MOSES Board of Directors and announced in January 2021.

Thanks to Ambre Blends

MOSES recently received a second donation through the give-back shopping program at Ambre Blends, a women-owned online business that produces and sells organic essences. We're so grateful to Ambre Blends for selecting MOSES for their give-back program to help us provide the training, resources, and practical support farmers need to succeed in organic production.

USDA Coronavirus Food Assistance Program

There's still time to apply for the USDA Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP) direct payment plan for farmers. The application period runs through Aug. 28.

Farmers’ Legal Action Group (FLAG) has published an updated Farmers’ Guide to Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP). This Second Edition includes more information on the possibility of farmer appeals of USDA decisions on CFAP, as well as on USDA’s discrimination complaint process.

The National Organic Coalition (NOC) is seeking feedback from organic farmers to better advocate for meaningful support. If you've applied for aid or found you weren't eligible, please share that with NOC through this short survey.

Small Grains Partner Program

Pipeline Foods, the Bionutrient Food Association, and the Real Food Campaign are collaborating on a new project focused on connecting soil, plant, and human health to improve the nutritional quality of the planet’s food supply. Their "Small Grains Partner Program" is looking for farmers who grow wheat and oats. The farmers will submit soil and grain samples (they’ll provide free test kits), and will receive a detailed report on the levels of protein, polyphenols, minerals, and antioxidants in the grains and total carbon, respiration, pH, and mineral content of the soil. If interested, complete this survey, and a representative from the program will reach out to you.

Farm Profit Program Resources

Pipleline Foods has created a one-stop-shop to find information on organic row crops. The Farm Profit Program website includes transition guides, grain bids, crop budgets, long-term contracts, manure and seed, YouTube playlists, podcasts, and more. To access the free resources, just complete this short form.

Guide to Scaling Up Regenerative Ag

Forum for the Future recently released a 37-page report outlining 16 barriers to scaling up regenerative agriculture in the U.S. plus a seven-point-plan to help overcome these barriers and drive transformational change.

Benefits of Organic Meat

The Organic Center’s latest report shares data from scientific literature to show the differences in the way organic meat is produced, and how those differences impact livestock health, consumers health and safety, soil health, and climate change. The report shows that organic meat provides more omega-3 fatty acids, less cholesterol, and more antioxidants; reduces consumers' exposure to antibiotics, growth hormones, and pesticides; and has fewer negative effects on the environment and is less of a contributor to climate change.

Online Direct-to-Consumer Sales Platforms

The CSA Innovation Network (CSA-IN) is gathering farmer-to-farmer input about online sales platforms farmers have used.  Click here to add your experience to the aggregated list. CSA-IN will compile this information into a companion piece to supplement the Farmers Guide to Direct Sales Software Platforms from the National Young Farmers Coalition.

Matching Wisconsin Farmers and Wholesale Buyers

REAP Food Group is working with researchers from the University of Wisconsin to develop an online platform that helps match Wisconsin farmers and wholesale buyers based on metrics like distribution radius, available products, quantity, seasonality, etc. To help them design the algorithm and matching software, they are asking Wisconsin farmers to complete a 2-minute survey

Corporate Control of Agriculture

Over the last several decades, an increasingly consolidated agribusiness industry has achieved near-total control over markets for farm inputs like seed, fertilizer, and equipment, as well as farm products like milk, meat, and grain. In an effort to rein in corporate power in agriculture, the Wisconsin Farmers Union is asking family farmers to sign an open letter to lawmakers. The letter asks for reforms such as:

1. Distributed ownership of the food supply chain;
2. Enforcement of antitrust laws to preserve economic competition;
3. Amendment of existing rules to promote marketplace transparency;
4. Adoption of new laws that re-balance the power between corporations and people.

Organic Vegetable Farmworkers

A graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is looking for workers from organic vegetable farms in the Midwest to participate in a brief survey and phone interview about their experience. Participants must be employed currently on a diversified organic vegetable farm, have at least 3 months of experience working in the industry, and be at least 18 years old. Individuals who participate in this project will receive $35 in compensation as a means of thanking them for their time. If interested, email Sarah at sjanes@wisc.edu.

Farmer-Led Conservation

Farmer-led conservation groups have been growing in popularity as a way for farmers to expand conservation practices and document their progress in water quality and soil health. Now, these groups and others can use a 16-page guide detailing the steps that have been critical to the success of existing producer-led groups. The Producer-Led Group Roadmap: Finding Success in Farmer-Led Watershed Organizations was created by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), the Dairy Strong Sustainability Alliance, and The Nature Conservancy.

New Podcast on Dealing with Stress

The Wisconisn Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has created a new podcast, called “Rural Realities," to provide mental health assistance resources to farmers and farm families.
