MOSES is organizing the event this year, which will include a "Plate to Politics" track spearheaded by the Women, Food and Ag Network (WFAN) in lieu of the annual WFAN conference. Workshops, demos, and networking opportunities will support women in all aspects of sustainable agriculture, providing essential information on leadership skills, empowerment, and farm business success. | | | | | | Training for Ag Service Providers The OATS collaborative, which includes MOSES, has organized a two-day training on organic production systems and the USDA National Organic Program to educate extension staff, agency personnel, consultants, educators, and technical service providers. The training takes place Aug. 14-15 at the Radisson Hotel in La Crosse, Wis. Cost is $85. Please note: While farmers are welcome, this event is geared towards service providers and consultants. | | | | | | Options for Prevented Planting Acres USDA's Farm Service Agency is extending the deadline to report acres of prevented planting in certain states until July 15, 2019. States include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin. In addition, USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service offers special sign-ups to help producers plant cover crops through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program. States involved include Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, and South Dakota. Producers can hay, graze, or chop a cover crop planted with NRCS assistance and be eligible for a prevented planting payment. This event is the source for conventional food and ag businesses to learn about opportunities in the organic and non-GMO industry, and for those in the field to discuss its challenges and advantages. This event, which has grown three-fold, promises unique insights from leading experts, and unparalleled networking opportunities. Tickets are $799 but farmers in the MOSES community may use the following discounts: producers with more than 5,000 acres under organic or transitional production use the code MOSES to reduce registration to $650; those with fewer than 5,000 acres use code ORGFARMER to reduce registration to $499. | | | | | | Regenerative Farming Fellowship The Regenerative Farming Fellowship is designed to support medium-scale farmers in the Northern Plains or Great Plains who are committed to adopting regenerative agricultural practices. Farmers from other regions also may apply. Meetings will take place in winter/spring of 2019-2020 in N.Y., D.C., and Minn. Travel support and stipends are available.
